Obituary for Dudley Max Bumpass II

Dudley Max Bumpass II, 83, of Streetman,TX, passed away on June 19, 2023. He was born on November 18,1939 in Tulsa, OK, to the late Lois (Couch) and Dudley Bumpass. Dudley graduated from Central High School in 1957 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1961. In 1966 he became a Certified Public Accountant through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. He also studied at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and earned a Master’s in Health Services Administration in 1981.

Dudley left a lasting reputation as a character and a legend. To know him was to know his favorite role was being Peepaw. Dudley would do anything to see his family succeed, and devoted his life to making his grandchildren and great grandchildren laugh and enjoy the fun things about life.

Dudley was a high achiever; a true jack of all trades with skills in many different areas. He immersed himself in serving the community and advocated for people who needed help. Retirement couldn’t stop him from continuing to make a difference by teaching at an elementary school, and later a community college with a focus on accounting. He loved to serve through Kairos Prison Ministry, as a member of the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Department, performing with the Corsicana Community Theatre to being a member of the Freemasonry.

Dudley- a loving father to four children, a loyal Peepaw to many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a kind friend to all who knew him- lived a life well worth remembering. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, his humor and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Left to cherish the memory of Dudley include his siblings, Katherine Sanner and Peter (Bonnie) Bumpass. His children, Suzanne Brittain, Karen (Mike) Costallos, Michael (Ursula) Bumpass and Beverly (Eddie) Blalock. His grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley (Daniel Rachman) Hardin, Suzanne Brittain, Michael (Lauren Seelye) Hardin, Gregory (Becca) Brittain, Brittany (Ryan Fisher) Brittain, Mary (Austin) Diamond, Madeline Bumpass, Monica Bumpass, Madison Blalock, Garrett (Chloey) Blalock and Mason Blalock. His great grandchildren, Elle Rachman, Kristine Fisher, Ophelia Brittain, Cole Fisher, Emme Rachman, Vivian Blalock and Theresa Diamond. His many nieces and nephews.

Dudley is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Donathan Bumpass, and brother, Charles Bumpass.
